to eat
Verne Cafe
is a great restaurant in very central bratislava, not expensive, the food is great, the environment very artsy and comfy. don't be surprised if the waiters are in bad mood. it comes with the teritory, and it's worth the visit.

Slovak Pub
is restaurant and pub right in obchodna street, the busy shops and eat in's street. the menu has everything you might wish for: typical food, light food, salads, gradma favourites, poor student menu, poor student after payday menu, etc, etc. all of this in a typical slovac wooden environment, with paintings and costumes and a lot of other details.
of course that if you don't want to eat you might as well just go there for a beer, or six.

Góvinda
is a vegeterian restaurant at the busy street of pusiknova, where you might find a lot of other restaurants and take aways.
the environment is very peaceful and the whole concept of the space is under the hare krishna influence. as for the food, it is very good and you can always choose a big or small plate, being that the small plate will leave you very well fed!

BackPackers Hostel/Restaurant
this was the place i had my first meal in slovakia. it's not the most typical one, in fact it's not typical at all, but it's a good transition point from where you're from to where you are now! plus the environment is really nice and calm. it is very well situated, near the historical centre and a very busy bus stop. i will talk about the restaurant since i didn't try the hostel part. it's a non smoking area with very good music, young servants and free wifi (you should ask for the password). there is also an exterior area that is very pleasant when it's sunny. if slovak is a problem for you as it is for me, you'd be happy to know everyone in here speaks english (but every young adult does!). the menus are very international, going from hungarian dumplings to italian pastas or pancakes. the deserts are wonderful and the general first impression i got from it is very very good! the pricing is reasonable as well, i'll definetly go back.
